Ice Cube is a well known rapper, who discusses many of our society's problem, and has a unique way of having solutions to these problems. In the song 'Gangsta Rap Made Me Do It', Ice Cube discusses how he is one of the few rappers left that are doing what they do the original way; the correct way. His tone is very angry, aggressive, and confident because he discusses matters of how African Americans are still living in the hood, and how they are involved in drug trades. Also, he is addressing the community which considers all rap bad.
He wants to stress that his 'gangsta rap' is different from new rap. New rap is what the community is talking about, how all they talk about is money, drugs, and women.
Gangsta rap incorporates life troubles into rap and shows a story. The structure of the song is three verses, and in between each verse there is a chorus.
The story he specifically uses in the song is how he lived in South Central, and how through his hard work he evolved into the entrepreneur he is today. His message is that anyone can do it, as long as they have the dedication and spirit similar to what he had. To make his lines rhyme, he uses slang words and cuss words to have a flow. In my opinion, no other rapper has a better flow than Ice Cube does, because he does not make up words to fill in his lines and to make them rhyme. He sets up his rap to address the story while it rhymes, which makes his rap very smooth.
Because the style of the song is gangsta rap, his message is given in a very straight forward, strong, confident, and open way. Raskraska rasporyadok dnya shkoljnika. He does not hide anything; he states everything he wants to be stated. If this song was to be sung in a new school rap style or one of the weak toned music style such as pop or hip-hop, the song would never pass the message that was intended to be passed. The way Ice Cube placed his words and the way he states what is needed to be stated shows a deep meaning of what he wants the society he lived in to do, and would want them to achieve great things.
Also, he targeted everyone who dared called him anything negative, because in his words he stated in an interview once, 'None of you soft ni can stand the type of s*** I've been through.'
